Slaight Family Foundation Donation

The news of the Slaight Family Foundation’s $3-million donation to RTA for the creation of the Allan Slaight Radio Institute is a clear sign that radio remains vital at RTA. The new Institute will be a state-of-the-art  broadcast and teaching facility that will strengthen Ryerson’s position as the educational leader in radio broadcast and production. The Allan Slaight Radio Institute will also foster excellence through newly created student awards, support for independent student productions, and hands-on practical experience for students at Ryerson’s digital radio station, ‘SpiritLive.’ The Slaight name is synonymous with broadcasting and philanthropy and the Foundation’s generous gift will support the next generation of radio content producers, innovators and entrepreneurs. Allan’s son Gary, president of the Slaight Family Foundation, spearheaded the donation to celebrate his father’s legacy, saying, “The Allan Slaight Radio Institute is a fitting tribute to his contributions and will ensure solid support to students wishing to pursue careers in radio and broadcasting. Our family is very pleased to provide this support to Ryerson University, and Allan looks forward to visiting the new facilities.”
