Team behind Vessels VR gets backing for startup company Discovr

Fourth year media production student Josh Maldonado is currently in San Francisco participating in the first ever virtual reality accelerator program. Maldonado has been given $100,000 in funding from U.S. venture capital firm Rothenberg Ventures to develop his virtual reality company, DISCOVR. The startup is developing an educational program that teaches users about history by immersing them in a historical virtual experience. Maldonado began the startup with RTA alum Omar Charles when they worked together on their practicum project Vessels VR, which used the Oculus Rift; a virtual reality headset, to take users inside the human body. The pair are in discussions with the Toronto District School Board to implement Vessels VR into the curriculum.
