Canada AM Co-Host Marci Ien (RTA ’91) is one of Canada’s most recognized and respected broadcasters. Her journey has taken her across Canada, from Halifax where she joined CTV National News as a reporter in 1997, to Vancouver where she was the News Anchor for CTV’s Olympic Morning at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
She has interviewed newsmakers from Desmond Tutu to Deepak Chopra; covered six federal elections; and anchored when news broke of the devastating earthquake in Japan, and the terror attacks in London in 2005.
Ien’s news series “Journey to Freedom — A Look at the Underground Railroad” for Hamilton’s CHCH-TV earned her a Canadian Radio and Television News Directors’ Award in 1995. In 2008, she received the Black Business and Professional Association’s (BBPA) prestigious Harry Jerome Award. A tireless advocate for education, Ien has travelled to Sierra Leone in 2008 on behalf of Journalists for Human Rights. Ien is also a proud Torontonian and a mother of two.
