After graduating with a BFA from York University, I began a long association with Second City that saw me move from being a Mainstage performer at the legendary Old Firehall, where I wrote and performed in six revues, to becoming a respected Director, Head Writer, and Producer on various Second City stage (Toronto, Chicago and Las Vegas), and television projects. I have also worked on a multitude of other television series and feature film scripts. As the most experienced director at Toronto’s Second City, I am continually teaching, evaluating, and imparting the experience of my years as an improviser, actor, writer and director to a succession of young writers and actors. I have found that many of the theories and practices of improvisational scene construction, when coupled with traditional screenwriting techniques, yield exceptional results in formats ranging from sketches, to shorts, to feature films. Through my association with Second City, I have been nominated for and received various national awards including; Dora Mavor Moores, Geminis, and Canadian Comedy Awards. But more important than awards, I have had the pleasure of working with the Who’s Who of Second City, which also means I have worked with some of the greatest comic performers of the last thirty years, including Ryan Stiles, Mike Myers, Ron James, and Catherine O’Hara as well as John Cleese and Robin Williams.
