Joel Darling is currently the executive producer for NHL special events with Sportsnet Hockey. He first joined CBC Sports full-time in 1988 as an associate producer, and has gone on to produce and oversee many of Canada's biggest sports productions and events during his 35 years in the television industry. Since joining the CBC, Darling has produced coverage of NHL hockey games, golf tournaments, CFL football and Major League Baseball games, as well as numerous show jumping, speed skating, aquatics and auto racing events. Major events he has worked on include the Rogers Cup tennis tournament, The Canada Games, The Commonwealth Games and 11 Olympic Games.
Darling was the executive producer of Hockey Night in Canada from 2000-2007 and from 2012-2014. He has also held numerous other executive producer roles including for the CFL on CBC, SportsWeekend, CBC Sports, the 1999 Pan AM Games and the Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, and Salt Lake City, Utah. Over his career he has been recognized with six Gemini Awards for excellence in Canadian broadcasting.
Darling holds a Bachelor of Applied Arts Degree in Radio and Television Arts from Ryerson University.
