RTA Assistant Professor, Dr. Hossein Rahnama, launched the world's first context-as-a-service cloud-based solution, Flybits, on September 28, 2015. Flybits allows iOS and Android developers to combine and use multiple sources of contextual information - from location to social profiles, user behavior and preferences, environmental data, and more - and develop features that deliver customers with more interactive mobile experiences. Flybits has already partnered up with the TD Bank Group, Vodafone, BOSCH, and recently with the David Foster Foundation for its 2015 Toronto Miracle Gala & Concert; a high-profile event that raises money to help Canadian families with children undergoing life-saving organ transplants. RTA grad and Flybits product management coordinator, Jordanne Pavao, said that the DFF Gala app gave users "exclusive access to red carpet photos, event highlights, photo sharing, video sharing, live voting, and the ability to make live donations." Rahnama, Flybits founder and chief product officer, added that, "Flybits is an example of successful research commercialization at Ryerson. The company was a founding member of the DMZ, and has gone on to hire more than 30 students from Ryerson. Through its growth, Flybits has demonstrated how Ryerson students and graduates can collaborate to build internationally recognized companies by working with the university."
