Twenty-four RTA students travelled to Los Angeles for a two-week boot camp in August to learn about the U.S. film and television industry. This year, guest speakers included Emmy winners, network executives, producers, showrunners, writers, agents, development executives and feature film distributors. Highlights of the program included a visit to the story department on set of ABC Family’s Stitchers, watching a live taping of Two Broke Girls and meeting RTA graduate and executive producer of American Ninja Warrior, Arthur Smith. At the end of the two weeks, students pitched their individual series proposals to Hollywood development executives, writers and producers. One student received a follow up meeting and a major production company is now considering optioning the project. RTA in LA wrapped with an elegant cocktail party on the roof of the storied Beverly Hilton Hotel, hosted by Ryerson’s Alumni Office.
