RTA is pleased to announce that the winner of the 2014 Wilf Fielding Memorial Award in Live Special Events Production is fourth year Media Production student, Sachil Patel. The award recognizes a student who has demonstrated interest and aptitude for live special events production.
During Sachil’s time at RTA, he executive produced the TARA Awards, Generation Y Live, and his fourth year practicum project, Snow Queen - which had a hugely successful showing at the Winter Garden Theatre. Sachil has also held positions in the television industry, including as a production assistant for Cineplex, and with the Toronto Pride Festival. Sachil’s passion lies in storytelling that touches on themes of diversity and inclusion.
“This award has motivated me to continue to take risks and be the kind of innovator that Mr. Fielding was throughout his career,” said Sachil. “Live television production still holds a very important place in the media industry, and I am confident that I will successfully carry forward his legacy.”
“Wilf was a leader in his era, who brought modern methods to special events broadcasting,” said former CTV news anchor Lloyd Robertson. “He was a guide, mentor, friend - and one of the best television producers this country has seen.” As a special events producer, Mr. Fielding covered the Olympic Games, World Expos, royal visits, Pope John Paul II’s visit to Canada, and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parades - for which he received an Emmy Award nomination.
The Wilf Fielding Memorial Award in Live Special Events Production was generously donated by Mr. Fielding’s life partner of 30 years, Anita Gordon and is in the amount of $1,000.
